And yet I sense that in the largest part, the people of England eat that stuff up...

And I sorta understand. It's a distraction from all the daily misery of the world.

people keep telling me that "oh, but watching it makes people forget their problems."

horseshit.

you don't forget you're out-of-a-job, soon to be out-of-a-job, hungry, poor or part of the unwashed masses that help pay for an over-the-top party just b/c they air it on TV for the unwashed masses to see too.

every time there' a big "to-do" in DC, the area people fork over millions of our money to pay for it and we don't a) forget our troubles b/c the president had a party or b) celebrate at ALL the jobs and or revenue the ONE EVENT brought in.

sheesh reagan's forty million fucking funerals alone was wasteful and drained the local economy out the yin-yang. At least when chelsea clinton got hitched, we didn't pay for that circus.

can you tell the hormone pills have kicked in?

God I love the Brits! No one else can do the pomp and pagentry the way the Brits do . Damn shame the Empire went to shit. It was a far better world when the Sun never set on the British Empire!

God save the queen and all that rot ( not that she needs God to save her, that old bag will likely live to 120 and poor Charlie will never get to be the King} ...........

Just wait Jilly till the Chinese run the world. Then you will be begging for a Royal wedding.

No, the Royal Wedding didn't make anyone forget their troubles. But, for about two hours on Friday, people were able to get out of themselves and their troubles. I loved it! I stayed up all night and watched all the coverage. I watched CNN with Piers Morgan, who seems to be a real British patriot. I thought that was nice. American coverage for the event SHOULD have been anchored by a real British patriot. And Jilly, the extreme coverage and worldwide excitement could not have been bad for the British economy, no??
Ok, 'nuff about the cost of the wedding. What about those hats? Particularly those of Princesses Eugenie & Beatrice. And Princess Beatrice's make-up! As someone on Facebook said "Didn't she look in a mirror before leaving the house?" Camilla and Mrs. Middleton looked smashing. (and it's usually difficult for the Duchess of Cornwall to look smashing). Victoria Beckham? Not so much.
At first, I thought she'd worn BLACK to the wedding. That would have been a bad faux pas.
And Earl Spencer is getting old (he'll be 47 on May 20) and FAT! He was with his fiance, who will become his third Countess Spencer. Perhaps Earl Spencer and his new wife will have a child together, to add to the six the Earl already has, by his first two wives.
And for those of you wondering, (that's you, Voib) no, I didn't have to look up the birthday of Earl Spencer.
Kate's dress was LOVELY. I really liked it.

Now Moif, I never thought for one moment that you had to look up ANYONE'S birthday!

P.S. My WV was "coltr," which is WAY too close to the name of that horse-faced she-devil.

when I saw the pic of the 2 princesses head gear I immediately thought those 2 came right out of Alice in Wonderland.

Eugenie ,hat aside was kind of cute but jesus Beatrice was, oh never mind.............
