I try not to give these reprehensible people a minute of thought. They don't, so why should I?

I listened to a democratic strategist on MSNBC late last night (i forget the host, it may play earlier too but we get loops of ober, maddow and various folks) and his point was this,, folks who underestimate Palin do so at their own risk. I don't much care for her, we have widely different ideas and values generally,, but I do think she is one smart cookie, whether you like her ingredients or not. Geezo petes,, don't make me bring up John Edwards for hollow suits- the Democrats have their own stable of shameless self-promoters. (His continued problems only make news here now.) I predict he'll be back- at least in NC politics. Folks have short memories. I sure hope Palin doesn't win nomination for anything.

Sarah Palin might be media savvy but she's as dumb as a post and it seems she doesn't even want to learn about this country's history on foreign policy or domestic policy for that matter.

John Edwards is a very smart man but did some dumb things in his personal life. I think he's been a snake to his family, but given the choice to make policy for this country, I'll take the Penis over the Post

What sort of country would "need" the ignorant, uneducated likes of her?

It seems to me that being media savvy (with sympathetic coverage) and charismatic and photogenic is what it's all about (and you can include JE here too- above any of his other attributes). Substance be damned. As long as we are stating our druthers,,I'll still take Hillary, who in my mind is smarter than any of the aforementioned and that includes the current occupant of the WH. IMO (still) - we missed the boat by not electing her. If it comes down to a choice of the Penis (stupid is as stupid does) or the Post, I'm staying home.

Tina Fey should be happy.

I can't stand Palin (twice as dumb as a post and not showing much inclination to remedy the situation) but this country (count me out) elected Dubya TWICE.

Gail,
I've been thinking about you . . .it'll be your first Thanksgiving without Dennis? Do you have plans? Hope you're well :)

Emma, neither our daughter nor I could even begin to think about Thanksgiving without drowning in a puddle of tears. BUT, today we decided that she and her husband would come spend UnThanksgiving with me and we would have BBQ and ribs from my local BBQ joint.

I guess I'm doing O.K.-reading a LOT and trying to keep putting one foot in front of the other. I will get thru this, but damn, it's hard.

Thanks for asking.

Palin is nuts. She's seriously unglued. I can't believe there are people who think she's anything other than a total psycho.

@Sheila's point about shameless self-promoting Democrats . . . two words . . . Barbara Boxer. I despise her as much as I do Palin.

Gail, I've missed seeing you on goodreads. Have you read anything fantastic?

Sonya, as I said, I've been reading a LOT. Right now, I'm reading "The Pursuit of Happiness" by Douglas Kennedy-quite entertaining. I've read the new Harlan Coben, Lee Child, Elmore Leonard (I love Elmore, but his last few books aren't that good), John LeCarre, Dennis Lehane, and have the new Ken Follett to read. Frankly, I read so much I'm a little embarrassed to list all the books on goodreads since everyone will find out that I have no life now (without Dennis) and have way to much time on my hands. Sara Jane Naslund's newest, Adam & Eve is good also the new Jeffery Deaver. See? I could go on and on...

Aw, I totally understand why a devoted reader like you would want to read a lot right now. Nothing wrong with that at all. I really enjoyed Ahab's Wife, by SJ Naslund. Is Adam and Eve anything like that?

Sonya, I tried to read Ahab's Wife but for some reason just could not get into it (sorta like Franzen's new book-another doorstop) and have now lost it amongst all the books here and there around my house so I can't say if they're anything alike, but I did enjoy A&E .

I know you won't be surprised, but I loved the new Franzen. :)
