The Other

Sharron Angle is one scary broad--she'll probably beat Harry Reid. I've seen the racist ads she's running. Are brown people truly that horrifying?

I saw Ron Reagan (a terrific commentator--My favorite Reagan!!) on television the other day stating that the new twist in right wing conservative thought is to paint their opponents as the "Other" --kinda like the tv show Lost. The "Others" are not quite the same as white people. . . like that woman who's running in Oklahoma against another woman . . . she said she's more qualified because she's a wife and mother, and her opponent is a woman in her fifties and has never been married. She planted the seed that maybe there's something "wrong" with her opponent.

Whether the Other is a non descript Hispanic- aka the terrifying Brown Illegal Alien, the Non-Christian, the Gay, the Gang Banger African American, whatever . . it's a sad state of affairs.

Well . . . I don't know that I would want a gang-banger politician. On the other hand . . . now that I think about it . . .

I blame the right-wing talk radio entertainment industry. They've got the po state/fat state/red state contingent all worked up about some "others" maybe getting their piece of the pie. (In most of their cases, btw, that would be a Moon Pie, with and RC Cola on the side.)

What is so distressing is that I really think those talk radio guys could care less about American politics, or even America. They're just rabble-rousing amongst the unwashed masses to make a buck.

It's very depressing.

verb, i agree, they don't believe any of the crap their shilling and they admit it when you ask them about it too! i keep telling the opinion poll people that all the people running are the same people, the name and party initial after it don't really mean a thing. The pollster usually says "umm hmm, good point. But, what if i told you blank (insert negative comment about someone here)?" I finally quit answering the phone.

i wouldn't want a gang-banger politician, but i think they all are, aren't they?

One of my biggest peeves with Michael Steel is with him playing along with the conservative fear of brown people and trying to make it "okay." He openly stated that people at the RNC openly fear him when he walks about, and it isn't because of his position, money, or ant sort of power, it's his color. And he's FINE with that. He doesn't feel the need to call people out on it or try and change things. Yet, he gets made when people (mainly from Baltimore) point out that he sold out 99% of the city of Baltimore when he went along with the republican party.
