We're awaiting the excellent insurance offers when Mr. T gets to join AARP next year.

Tree, try not to hold your breath until the Mr. is eligible for AARP. We had them calculate the insurance for our cars-which if we're lucky, we put 3000 miles on per year-and their quote was DOUBLE what we pay now.

Try to hold on for Medicare-now that's great insurance. Won't cover your autos, but the coverage is great.

Gail, yikes! We already pay way too much for auto insurance with two teens. But we tend to buy all our insurance with one company to get a discount (umbrella, house, cars.) Right now we have AIG. They are selling off the insurance arm to Farmers. So I don't know what is going to happen.

Sonya, we have all our insurance, except for health, with one company also. Every once in a while (well, O.K. about once a week) Dennis gets "thrifty" and off I go looking for cheaper insurance. I haven't found any other company to offer not only lower rates but personal service like our present carrier does. It seems to help that I went to school with not only the owner of the agency and his wife but most of the clerks too! Not that that lowers our payments, but at least they do answer the phone.

I switched our auto insurance a few years ago from Farmers to Mercury. I saved, and I swear this is absolutely not in the slightest bit an exaggeration, a full 50%. I was paying Farmers over $6000 a year to insure five cars and a motorcycle (yeah...I know) and now I pay $3000 with Mercury. Pretty impressive.

we get aarp cards for my guy's aunt who died when she was 3 months old. we keep telling them that she died at 3 months of age but they won't leave us alone. i'm sometimes tempted to just take them up on the offer.

apparently some illegal immigrant bought her name and got an SS number on her (she died during WW2, so had no SS#). the SS people didn't think it was odd that someone in their late 60s got an SS# for the first time a few years ago.

the illegal person (or persons) ran up massive , joined a lot of groups and used our address as theirs (the last name isn't common).

We didn't have the heart to tell grandpa (whose nearly 100) because he can't even say his dead daughter's name without choking up and having to leave the room.

my guy's dad has had a hell of a time getting it all sorted out. he says that every time he has to meet with an atty. or government person, it's like they kill his sister in front of him again.
