Having a slew of inlaws over for bbq tomorrow. First time they've seen the house. The s-i-l who's very religious isn't coming, which is kind of a relief because: she recently shamed us for not being "believers" when we went to the hospital to be with them while their son was in surgery ["I know you're not believers (frown) but G-d was watching out for [son] when he fell from roof because he didn't hit the planter, which was right below."] What do you say to something like that? First impulse was to say, "If G-d had been watching out for him, why did he fall off the roof in the first place, breaking two bones and dislocating shoulder, and potentially never recovering from the nerve damage that's a direct result of falling?" but I like to keep the peace and so instead just took her scorn and stuffed it in my bra with a wadded-up Kleenex to throw away later.

I have a sister who's a religious nut. Pretends compassion while bashing all "non-believers"

Is there one in every family.

Along that same line . . . there is a secretary at work who has this signature line in her emails "Some things are true whether you believe them or not."
WOW. That just blows everything out of the water. What do you say to that?

i hate people who pretend to be open to other people's beliefs but are really putting everyone else who isn't them down. i REALLY hate the "everyone is going to hell but me" people. I want to beat them with a king james.

I am spending tomorrow at my not so surprise 28th birthday party with 50 of my closest friends and most tolerable relatives at a local beach pavillion eating crabs and other cook out foods while biting my tongue at the hypocrite welfare recipients who are republican and "hate those system abusers." i think "hating system abusers" is really their way of saying they hate teenage minority girls. what do you think?

Jilly, happy birthday! I remember when you weren't even 20 yet. :)

Emma, maybe your email tag could be: Some things are false whether you believe them or not. That'll show her.

(I am perfectly fine with people believing anything. But we were the ones who showed up in support, so why be condescending to us? Weird. If she'd just said, "We're so grateful to God that something worse didn't happen," of course we would have shared in that gratitude (to whomever) with them. But she had to be a jerk about it. You're right: there's someone like that in every family.)

I don't have any religious nuts, but I have plenty of regular nuts.
I don't have anything major planned. Tomorrow night we're going to Afro's wife's graduation party. She got her Masters.

Damn, Afro's married, huh?

We don't have any religious nuts but, like Schell, have regular nuts. Mostly my sister.

Not much planned. Going to the Obon festival at the family Buddhist temple on Saturday. Other than that, laundry, more organizing, etc.

I worked tonight and I go back at 7am tomorrow. But then after that I am meeting up with drum corps friends at the house of one of the guys in the hornline. We're going to eat picnicky food and watch a DCI Atlanta show. I think it's the Atlanta show...live.

I just finished making my Oriental (not Asian) salad, which is always a big hit. I'm really looking forward to seeing all my friends outside of rehearsal!

Tomorrow is also the last day for me at my store as GM. After 4pm I get deleted from everything and begin my new role as DM (or area manager, actually).

On Sunday I'll actually get to see my family at Sunday dinner for the first time since....oh....March or April? I can't exactly remember. I am overdue for bringing a Father's Day gift and my mom's birthday gift. I'd better get both of them tomorow!

I'm also taking care of a friend's doggie on Saturday and Sunday morning. She's a sweet BIG puppy dog, and I don't mind a bit except that he lives about 35 minutes away from here, and I'll need to go there about 3 times to let her out of the apartment to take care of her doggy business.

Good times, good times.
