Gov. Sanford Admits Having Affair
COLUMBIA, S.C. (June 24) - After going AWOL for seven days, Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday that he had secretly flown to Argentina to visit a woman with whom he was having an affair. Wiping away tears, he apologized to his wife and four sons and said he will resign as head of the Republican Governors Association.
"I've been unfaithful to my wife," he said in a bombshell news conference in which the 49-year-old governor ruminated aloud with remarkable frankness on God's law, moral absolutes and following one's heart. He said he spent the last five days "crying in Argentina.
Sanford, who in recent months had been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2012, ignored questions about whether he would step down as governor.
At least one state lawmaker called for his resignation. As a congressman, Sanford voted in favor of three of four articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton, citing the need for "moral legitimacy."

He's a disingenuous idiot.
next we'll find out that he stole the money to pay for his vacation....
jilly
I laughed my head off when I heard this. The R's really need to learn about glass houses.
what is with these men? i seriously don't know why women don't rule the world. they would never be influenced by a penis.
Right on Spidey! We'd so a much better job.
At least he admitted it . . . Dems could learn a thing or two about glass houses. Shouldn't all democrats who said it was nobody's business about Clinton having his affair with Lewinsky be saying this guy's affair is nobody's business either?
I don't know the guy from Adam but, seems that if it really is irrelevant for Clinton, it should be irrelevant for whoever this guy is as well.
Democrats don't go around pontificating about other people's "moral legitimacy." At least this one doesn't.
Jon Stewert on the Daily Show earned a snort when he said "Another conservative mind with a liberal penis" followed with "c'mon honey, you're giving me blue state balls"
be grateful our lot have all been fiddling expenses and voting themselves massive pensions an affair is nothing
I'm so tired of the self-righteous right-wingers trying to tell everyone how they should live their lives and judging anyone who is actually an individual and disagrees with them and then never living up to their own ideals. Their hypocrisy makes me sick.
Here's the thing, Urban:
Right wingers love to point the finger and condemn "immorality".. They condemn Pro-Choicers for killin' babies, condemn homosexuality as a sin against God, condemn adultery, condemn prostitution, so when they get caught with their hands in the cookie jar so to speak, it gives me some guilty pleasure.
PS: AT LEAST this latest joker didn't have his long-suffering wife standing behind him, supporting him in his hour of need. Gag. Good for her! Let him hand himself out to dry.
"hand" should be "hang" but . . . he'd been better off had he taken his sex life in hand and not had the affair!
The hand comment made me laugh out loud, for some reason. :)
Well, I will say what I always say about these things -- in my opinion it shows poor judgment and I don't want the people representing me to have poor judgment.
I hope his wife dumped him.
