Elizabeth Dole was a carpetbagger. I didn't vote for her the first time around. But she was no worse than most freshmen senators- they have no power to do much and get stuck on the committees no one wants. Hagen on the other hand is an absolute liar about her record on budget matters. How can you increase the debt in the state to TWO BILLION and tell me you balanced the budget. Don't get me even started on the outgoing govenor and his wife who took two European vacations at taxpayers expense for almost half a million dollars. To even pretend that the Democrats in our state are fiscally responsible is a slap in the face to anyone who can balance their own checkbook. (why is this such an issue with me? our taxes were raised temporarily which became permanent, we have 8% income tax that is steeply progressive, our gas is 20 cents higher than in neighboring states because of gas tax, we are one of the most heavily tax burdened states in the SE, yet there is still not enough money, even after we got the lottery which got folks sent to jail, what a freaking Democratic nightmare). Dole was a victim of Bush- I don't mind that she is gone. But her replacement is abysmal and I don't expect much from her either, except as a rubber stamp. Dole's ads about Hagen's association with that "godless" group must have run about twice. Stupid, but I saw them more on the news than on actual TV ad. Unfortunately, NC seems to have run slates of idiots for both parties. There's lots more where this came from :).
