More Politics

It's now confirmed that Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter is unwed and pregnant.

The Repubs are a party of "Family Values"--who can forgot ole Dan Quayle going after fictional character Murphy Brown for having an out-of-wedlock son?
They don't want sex education in schools.
They don't want to hand out condoms in High Schools.
They don't want to fund Planned Parenthood.
They don't want women to have control over their own reproductive organs ("Keep your hands off of my uterus!")

How long will it take before the Repubs put a positive spin on this tempest in a teapot--"at least she's having the baby!" "She'll marry the dad!" "She won't KILL THE FETUS by having an abortion!"
How long? About 12 hours as I see it.
Personally, I think she should give up the baby for adopton--I'm sure Brangelina will take the poor tyke in.

The baby's father must be scared shitless.

I also just thought of this: would the outcry be different if the girl were 18? Legally an adult.

A couple of days ago, Hallie started a Facebook group called Sarah Palin Hates Polar Bears.

Yesterday, she saw it being featured on Rolling Stone's website, and it's up to nearly 500 members!

For some Christian right wingers the outcry would be the same . . . because she's unmarried.
For the last 25 years or so since the Republican party courted Falwell's "Moral" Majority and alligned itself with the far right, it thinks it's the Standard bearer for American morals. With all the scandals Repub politicians have been involved with, you'd think that the party would move back to the center and dump this "morals" stuff.
Neither party has a lock on Family Values, or morals or anything like that. The difference is, the Democratic Party never claimed to have a lock on morals, but the Repubs have. That's why, to me, it's humorous when a Repub politician is hoisted on his/her own petard.

Oh and YAY for Hallie .. SPHPB is hilarious!

It didn't take the party faithful 12 hours to go with the whole "she's having the baby" scenario. And why, if the happy couple are going to get married, don't they go ahead and damn do it? Something tells me, that no matter how much the party protests, NO ONE really vetted this wo...er...gov...person. With at least two seats on the Supreme Court likely to be replaced during the next one if not two Presidential terms, putting a pure right-wing idealogue on the ticket may make the base happy, but should scare the crap out of everyone else-especially Hillary's 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling.

i work with many pregnant teens and i don't care if they get married or not, i personally feel most of them are better off without getting married after looking at the guys who get them pregnant (it's usually the same one who gets them all pregnant and he's almost 30, but only the parents of the girl can press charges, so it'll never happen).

i mainly care that they eat right and take their vitamins every day and stay away from drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and medications that are bad for the baby. I care about this because of all my pregnant teen students, 17 years ago, their mothers were pregnant teens (most of them also special ed students) who probably didn't do everything they should have. most of the pregnant teens think that drinking mountian dew and eating ho-hos for lunch is a good idea, unless someone nags them to change.

last year a young teacher was asked if she had kids and she replied "I'm not married" the student said "I dodn't ask if you were married." And today we had a chat in one class about their dreams for 10 years from now. Most of the girls said they wanted 2-3 kids but did not want to get married because "that just messes up your life." It seems to me like marriage must not even be on the radar of these kids. I don't know if that makes them "immoral," but i don't think it has anything to do with it.

At least the Palin family is providing a powerful object lesson in what happens when girls are taught abstinence instead of science. Backwards idiots...

Verb,
to teach abstinence is just absurd. It's sex. People want to have sex: Adults and teenagers too. Not to teach about pregnancy, STDs, AIDS, herpes, etc is just WRONG. How else are teenagers to learn about this stuff?----uptight parents sure don't teach them . . they think all teenagers have sex, EXCEPT theirs. Sheesh. Put time and money into sex education and condoms . . . or society will put money into supporting children of children.

the sexual drive of young males and females is much stronger than anything we tell them. so give them something to protect themselves and remind them everyday to use it.

I didn't say they were immoral for not getting married, I'm just tired of that party preaching morality and "family values" with the sort of shenigans they've gotten up to in the last few years-anyone remember Larry Craig, and that Vetter guy from LA. and the gov. of NJ who was gay as a goose? "just say no" didn't work with drugs and it ain't working with teenage sex either. Bye a clue, Reps.

I just don't care about public figures' sexual behaviors. I don't understand why and when we decided to make this public information. Nobody cared about Roosevelt's or Eisenhower's mistresses, or Jack Kennedy's sexual exploits. I just don't need to know this stuff. I don't care that Sarah Palin's daughter is pregnant. I DO care that Sarah Palin thinks that she and the U.S. government ought to have some input as to what happens to my uterus, though.

Tell you what--you right-wing nutjobs do what you want in bed. I won't even call you to task for your outrageous hypocrisy. Just don't stick your nose into what I choose to do in my personal life, either. And keep your stinkin' hands off my reproductive organs, while you're at it. Hmph.
